John hillyer

John has an extensive history of implementing performance improvement initiatives, executing restructuring plans and managing the sale of businesses as Chief Restructuring Officer, a company advisor and as a court-appointed Receiver. He brings a blend of operational, financial, real estate and fiduciary experience to the practice. 


Over the last twenty-five years, John has worked with Fortune 500, middle-market, family-owned/entrepreneurial clients and the Federal Government in domestic and international settings. He specializes in identifying and implementing operational and financial solutions. His strength is in leveraging people, processes, and organizational structures to implement sustainable, lasting solutions.


John has experience operating businesses through the restructuring and sale processes as a court-appointed Receiver or Chief Restructuring Officer. Recent assignments have included a steel service center, consumer products business, sports equipment importer, oil and gas exploration business, national auto service center, residential developer, business equipment and service retailer, international sports nutrition business, commercial construction company, nutritional supplement manufacturer, rubber components manufacturer, and a federal Jobs Corps contractor.


During the last ten years, John has also been involved in a diverse range of real estate assignments. He has provided advisory services to lenders and has worked as a court-appointed receiver in cases involving industrial and commercial projects, retail strip centers, golf course communities, and residential single-family and multi-unit real estate portfolios.

Timothy Umberger

CFO | Finance I Operations I M&A 

Tim Umberger joined the Hillyergroup, serving as a Certified Public Accountant and a financial consultant.  Tim brings many years of accounting experience to the Hillyergroup, in addition to being one of the youngest candidates in Stark County to pass all four parts of the CPA exam in his first sitting in the fall of 1984 at the age of 20.  

 

Tim has proven to be successful across various sectors in Public Accounting, collaborating in medium to large-sized clients, in the private sector across a wide array of industries.  Specializing in such industries as automotive, manufacturing and service industries, Tim has developed and mastered his skills in roles such as CFO for privately-held organizations in the automotive, distribution, and property preservation industries.   

 

Tim’s wide range of experience, particularly in his role as CFO complimented his strong background in accounting and tax requirements with experience in the operations of high growth companies contributing to exponential growth on an annual basis while maintaining/improving profitability.  During his most recent tenure, he was involved in two major acquisitions including negotiations, obtaining financing and operationally merging the acquisitions into existing structures.  He centralized roles across various entities resulting in significant savings while increasing productivity at the same time.  Proving his expertise further, Tim was able to obtain/restructure financing working with various lenders to provide working capital requirements during high growth periods.  He also oversaw the restructuring of two entities from high growth to significant downsizing including winding up and liquidation of one of the entities.

 

Tim will work together with Hillyergroup to provide consulting services to implement financial and operational solutions to clients.  His work will focus on existing lending institutions or new lenders to provide operational freedom to provide sustainable debt solutions along with operational efficiencies and cost-cutting measures.

Finance | CFO | M & A | Operations

A Principal with the Hillyergroup, Bill has over twenty-five years of financial and operating management and consulting experience. He began his career in banking working with clients from the Fortune 500 through the Middle Market and privately owned small companies across a variety of industries. Bill has also been a CFO for an NYSE publicly-traded company, a private equity-owned company and an entrepreneur owned company. 

For Hillyergroup, Bill works to identify and implement operational and financial solutions by providing insightful analytics to enable effective decision making with management. He has led financial and operational turnarounds both as a manager and an external consultant. 

Recently Bill provided consulting services to a turnaround situation for a manufacturer of highly engineered components for the aerospace industry. This project required moving quickly to provide analytics, reporting and negotiating with the exiting bank and new bank to ensure liquidity as well as profitability analysis, process improvement recommendations, and strategic planning guidance to enable future success.
